		Notes for Walter Cleary: General Notes: Walter Cleary came from Wexford Ireland. He was transported for 'Life' to Van Diemans Land after being tried at Kent Assizes 13 March 1820. (Offence unknown at this stage) He was imprisoned in a hulk until he sailed from Portsmouth on the ship 'Maria' 28th July 1820 and arrived 1st December 1820. Convict No: 317 (CON 31/4) May 12, 1921 Pretended to be ill & falsely obtained a pass from work - 14 days gaol. Absent from his masters employ - 14 days and 25 lashes Charged with Highway Robbery on 21 July 1825 but found not guilty on 1st October 1825. 24 November 1830 Having in his posession a skeleton key for 5 weeks. He was imprisoned and kept to hard labour for 3 months and recommended to be assigned to the interior. Was granted a Ticket of Leave and permitted to marry Mary Ann Glover (Convict) on 12 Oct 1835 Conditional pardon No: 970 31/8/1836. Extended to all parts save the United Kingdom 30/12/1851

		Notes for Mary Ann Glover: General Notes: Mary Anne Glover was a nursemaid in London, England. On April 5th, 1832 and at age 16 years, Mary was convicted of stealing 9 yards of printed cotton material from William Greenwood, linen draper of Farringdon Street on 31st March 1832. She was sentenced to 7 years prison with transportation to Van Diemans Land. She departed Downs on 15 Sep 1832 and arrived at Hobart, Tasmania on 10 Jan 1833 on board the Ship, "Frances Charlotte". She was processed through the 'Female Factory at Cascades (Hobart)'. At age 17 years she was then appropriated to Mr William Carter. Charged 4 April 1834 'On the Town' - 6 months - disorderly conduct. Mary was granted permission to marry Walter Cleary (Convict) on 12 October 1835. My uncle, Roy Basil Burnell remembered her grabbing a large snake in the woodheap by the tail, yanked it out and cracked the snake like a whip, sending the head flying off. She had 5 sons and 5 daughters. One son died after the Boer War where he was decorated for bravery. He developed Tuberculosis and it eventually killed him. Elizabeth was 6 years old when she arrived in Tasmania from Scotland. She kept the little armchair that she sat on the ships deck with. It was always alongside the fireplace at William St, West Hobart. Roy Basil and my father Cyril (Fred) used to sit in it and keep her company on cold nights.

		Notes for Henri Jules Binet: General Notes: [MYGED.GED] Henri Binet was French. He was a phenomenal shot with a gun. In fact a Bookmaker imported a pigeon gun for him at great cost from England. In those days pigeon shooting was all the go and they used to bet on whether you dropped the first pigeon or the second or both. They had an arrangement of signals of which bird was shot or both, and they made a lot of cash out of it. He eventually became the Tourist Bureau of Tasmania's guide for all overseas travellers who wanted to go deer, duck or quail shooting or see the wilderness. He died of stomach cancer. He was very close to Roy Basil. He had two daughters, Marie and Sadie. He wanted to swap one of his daughters for Roy. Every Sunday they used to visit us for tea or we would visit them. They only lived a couple of blocks away further up the mountain.

		Notes for Cyril Henry Burnell: General Notes: My Grandfather, Cyril Burnell was born in Hobart Tasmania on 28th Dec, 1883. In 1908, he married Elizabeth Cleary who was a pastry-cook in Hobart. Around 1920 they moved with my father Fred and my uncle Roy to Bronte where they lived for a short time. Cyril was an upholsterer and eventually set himself up in business at Victoria Avenue, Chatswood. They lived in the residence above the shop. From the balcony upstairs, I used to watch the trams going up to Chatswood Station. Directly opposite their shop there used to be an open roof movie theatre. On hot nights they used to roll the roof back and you could watch the stars and the movie at the same time. Elizabeth used to make the cushion covers on her sewing machine for the lounges and chairs my Grandfather used to make. He made my sister Beryl and I a minature lounge chair each which was exactly like the full sized one. It was a very strong chair and we used to sit in front of the fire on cold nights and listen to the radio serials.When they retired in 1958 they moved to Narrabeen Lakes. Two years later Cyril passed away. My Grandmother lived for another 12 years until she also passed away with a heart attack.

		Notes for Cyril Frederick Henry Burnell: General Notes: Cyril (or better known as 'Fred') was born in Hobart, Tasmania and came to live in Sydney around mid-1920's. First at Bronte and then at Chatswood. It was here that he came to know my mother Vicky Wray at a local tennis club. They were married and moved to Marrickville, then to 43 West St, Hurstville, then to East Lindfield, then to Crows Nest, then Willoughby, then Dee Why. They had 5 children, 3 daughters and 2 sons. The eldest girl was Winifred who died at birth. Then came Roy, Beryl, Fred and Jenny. My sister Beryl and I didn't see much of my Dad until 1945 when the Second World War ended. He served in the Royal Australian Air Force and was attached to No 2 Squadron in Darwin and Port Moresby. He was a tail gunner and saw action. I remember him being wounded by several pieces of shrapnell. Late 1945, we moved to Willoughby and dad worked for Paramount Panel Beaters at Neutral Bay. A short time later he worked at Hallstrom Refrigerators at Naremburn as a spray painter. I remember spending annual holidays at Moruya Heads on the NSW South Coast where we would camp, fish and swim. They were good family times. In 1955, we moved to Dee Why and spent our teenage years near the beach. Fred worked at the Manly Leagues Club and Palm Beach Golf Club as a Bar Manager. When my mother died of cancer, it really shattered our family because we were extremely close to her. Our mother would go without things herself so that we would not miss out on the essentials. When Jenny married Reg Clare, they stayed on at the Dee Why house and eventually bought it from my father. Later on they renovated the house completely. You wouldn't recognise it. Fred moved to Tanilba Bay and lived a de-facto relationship with my Aunt Joyce, who had been divorced from my uncle Roy. It was at Tanilba Bay that Fred suffered a heart attack and died on 21/8/1982. Fred loved Rugby League and most sports. He was Secretary to the Manly Warringah Junior Rugby League for many years.
		Victoria Winifred Wray is the daughter of John Haverly Dolph Wray and Winifred Gladys Blunt [1]. She was born on 08 Jan 1910 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia [1]. She died on 27 Dec 1964 in Manly, New South Wales, Australia [1]. Cause of Death was Cancer. Burial in Sutherland Cemetary [1].

		Notes for Victoria Winifred Wray: General Notes: Vicky was born in 1910. She was a hairdresser and during the Depression of the 1930's, she kept her parents and siblings alive, having the only source of income in her family. She met my father Fred Burnell at a tennis club and later married in 1936. She was a loving mother who gave birth to five children. The eldest was Winifred who died at birth. Vicky loved life and would enjoy the simple things such as swimming, dancing, going to the movies and various social events. Unfortunately, she developed Cancer in the 1950's and following several operations she died in 1964. She didn't get the chance to see her grand-children grow to maturity and when she died, the family was devastated, ... a big hole was left in our lives. She is still sadly missed.

		Notes for Roy Basil Burnell Snr: General Notes: Roy was born in 1916 and became a licensed plumber by trade. He then went to Teachers College and became a High School Manual Arts Teacher. Roy was also one of Australia's leading Dog Judges. His name is still a by- word in gun-dog circles throughout Australia. For many decades he has written articles and books on the various breeds of gun-dogs as well as racing greyhounds. He specialised in breeding and training various types of dogs such as English Pointers and three breeds of Setters, Labradors, Weimaraners and Spaniels. I remember my Uncle Roy giving me a Blue-haired "Cocker" Spaniel named 'Curley' when I was very young. I loved that dog and was heartbroken when she died. Soon after Roy gave me an Irish Setter who I called 'Gypsy' - She had a fabulous red coat that shined all the time. I also remember going to the Royal Easter Show each year to watch him judge the dogs, day after day. He certainly loved it. He also travelled all over Australia and to many countries just to judge dogs at Dog Shows. Roy married Joyce Cato, lived at Gladesville and had two sons Malcolm and Ian. Roy divorced his wife Joyce and later married Norma Burgess. Norma's daughter Vicki Burgess changed her name by Deed Poll to Burnell. She gave birth to a son Roy Basil Burnell Jnr. After Roy jnr was killed in a car accident, they moved to Murdanna Tasmania where they lived until Roy died.

		Notes for Roy Henry Burnell: General Notes: I was born in 1938 and grew up during the 2nd World War (1941-1945) with my mother and sister Beryl, at Crows Nest. At the end of the War, when my father returned from the Air Force, we moved to Willoughby where I spent most of my childhood. I was one of those kids who loved school and studied hard. My parents thought I would follow in my uncle's footsteps and become a Manual Arts teacher like he did. I shocked them when I said I was quitting school in my 4th year of high school, to join the National Bank. I married Helen Millar, but the marriage lasted just two years. I spent eight years with the Bank as a Teller, then left to work with the NRMA Insurance Company. I married Robyn Stearn and had three sons, Charlton, Shannon & Shayne. I worked 18 years with the NRMA and was then offerred an executive position with the Phoenix Insurance Company. I stayed with them for 12 years and was medically discharged in 1992 with a pituitory brain tumor. After the operation, I started working from home doing Network Marketing with Grace Cosmetics and Pro-Ma Performance products. I became interested in family genealogy and have spent many years doing the necessary research. I then became a Market Researcher which I found was quite enjoyable. After 32 years of marriage I divorced Robyn, then on 24 Jan 2003 I moved to Redcliffe Qld where I now live with my partner Stella Doney, a girl I had met 37 years earlier at the NRMA. We are now extremely happy, we both love to travel to exotic places and are committed to each other for the rest of our lives. On 5th January 2008 Stella and I were married at The Golden Ox Restaurant at Margate Qld. In 2006 I began working as a volunteer at the Redcliffe Museum which is very enjoyable and gives me an opportunity to meet other people with similar interests.

		Helen Margaret Millar is the daughter of Angus Orville Millar and Lucy McNeil Shaw [1]. She was born on 15 Apr 1942 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia [1].
